How to play

1. Add songs

Cloud library (recommended): set it up once from the Cloud library card on the Play tab. After that, every song you add on your computer is uploaded to your private song repository, and your phone lists it too. Tap a cloud song to download it; it then plays offline.

Open Heather Music Hub from your Home Screen and tap Add songs, or Import song pack to add every song from your computer's Songs folder at once. Pick MP3 or M4A files from the Files app (iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Google Drive or files saved from email). Tap Select to add several at once.

Songs stay inside the app under My Songs and play offline. To remove one, tap × and then Remove.

Click Add songs or drop audio files on it. Added songs are saved under My Songs.

To bundle a whole folder, put the files in Songs/ and run py tools/build_library.py.

2. Pick a chart

Tap a song, wait a few seconds for the analysis, then choose one of four charts. The Lv number shows how hard a chart is.

Vertical plays in portrait with tiles falling down four lanes. Horizontal plays in landscape on a 3D track with arcs.

For Horizontal, turn the phone sideways: the game waits for landscape and pauses if you turn it back.

3. Note types

  • TapTap its lane when it touches the line.Press its lane key when it touches the line (D F J K, or S D F G in Mouse + keys mode).
  • HoldPress when it arrives and keep your finger down until the tail ends.Press the key and keep it down until the tail ends.
  • FlickTouch it and swipe in any direction. A plain tap only scores Good.Press its key. With a mouse, click and drag.
  • DoubleTwo outlined tiles joined by light. Hit both together.
  • Arc HorizontalPut a finger on the glowing ring and slide left and right with the ribbon until it ends. Your other thumb plays the floor.Keyboard mode: hold Space and the lane key under the ribbon, switching keys as it moves. Mouse + keys mode: hold the mouse button on the glowing ring and drag along.
  • Sky note HorizontalTap the upper part of the screen under the gold bar as it reaches the faint line.Keyboard mode: Space + the lane key under the gold bar. Mouse + keys mode: click it (anywhere near it counts).

4. Controls

Vertical: hold the phone upright and use both thumbs on the four lanes. Tap anywhere in a lane; the pads below the line show where.

Horizontal: the lower part of the screen is the floor (four lanes), the upper part is the sky. A common grip is left thumb on arcs, right thumb on the floor, swapping when an arc starts on the right.

Pause with the button in the top-left corner.

Pick your controls on the chart screen under Computer controls:

Keyboard (both hands on the keys): D F J K play the four lanes. In Horizontal mode, hold Space and press the lane key under a sky note, or keep Space and the key under an arc held while it passes. Keys on the other side still play the floor. Esc pauses.

Mouse + keys (left hand on keys, right hand on the mouse): S D F G play the lanes. The mouse is only for the sky: click sky notes, hold the button to follow arcs. Space or Esc pauses.

A touchscreen laptop works like a phone.

5. Scoring and clearing

Perfect ±150 ms, Great ±190 ms, Good ±240 ms, otherwise Miss. You don't have to wait for the line: once a tile is inside the glowing hit zone (the lower part of its path, about 40% of the way), tapping its lane counts as a Good. Tapping before a tile reaches the zone does nothing. You can slide a finger from one lane into the next to hit it without lifting. Holds score on the press and on the release, and arcs score every half beat you stay on them.

The clear gauge at the top fills as you hit notes and drops on misses. End the song at 70% or more to clear it; below that the result is Track Lost.

Score goes up to 1,000,000. Grades: AP all perfect, SS 980k, S 950k, A 900k, B 800k, C 700k. No misses at all is a Full Combo.

6. Rewards

Every play gives EXP toward your player level. Clears also give coins: more for higher grades and harder charts, plus bonuses for a first clear, first Full Combo, first All Perfect, a new best and each level up.

Your rating is the average of your 10 best chart ratings. A chart's rating is its level at 950,000, up to level + 2 at a perfect 1,000,000, so playing harder charts well raises it fastest.

Spend coins in Rewards on tile skins and stage themes. Achievements pay coins too, and two of them unlock the Gold skin and Nebula theme.

App themes at the top of Rewards are free: each one is a picture background with menus, buttons, text, gameplay and note colours that match it. With the default skin, notes use the theme's colours; any other skin you equip keeps its own. If a picture is missing, tap Add pictures and choose the files from your Background folder; with the cloud library connected, your other devices then get them too. The song pack also carries them.

Tips

If your hits feel consistently early or late (common with Bluetooth headphones), use the suggested audio offset on the results screen, or set it on the chart screen.

No sound on iPhone? Check the silent switch. Close other apps if the game stutters.

Wired headphones or speakers give the tightest timing.
